Country Comments

Malta is a small island nation in the Mediterranean Sea with a dense population ten times greater than what can be sustained by its natural resources. Its large population has led to more infrastructure needs, such as fresh water which is in short supply. Deforestation and habitat loss have made preserving wildlife a challenge. The country has below replacement fertility rate but has yet to start seeing its population decline which will continue to degrade the environment.
